Description

My half of a trade with :iconrolytic: for the group #Our-Dreams-Come-True.

The request was for the 5th Gen fossil pokemon Archeops looking, and I quote, "badass." I was given a lot of freedom for this, but haven't not played Black and/or White, I had a hard time coming up with what to draw. They didn't request a background, but I decided to go for it anyways, since I realized that hey, we've got a flying lizard dinosaur pokemon here. Why not have it grabbing another fossil pokemon? Which is how I wound up with an ocean scene and including an Omanyte.

Wound up really experimenting with brushes in every aspect of this piece, as well as lighting. And I'm really, really happy with it. The water was hard to do, but I think it turned out really nice.

Anyways, hope you like it, Rolytic!

Hooray! Critique time!
The coloration on this piece took me right back to this part of Fantasia: [link] and I absolutely love that. The browns and pale yellow and red look very prehistoric. I haven't played the games either but I find this whole scene very believable. I think it was a good decision to tone down the Archeops body color because it would have been too flashy to go in with the environment. Putting in an environment at all is really going the extra mile so I congratulate you on that one. If I were to find any problems with this piece, it might lie in the water. You and I know both know that I struggle drawing water too, so I feel you on this one. I think it might need some reflections from the sun, and could maybe even do without the dark outlines. Actually without the dark outlines it might look more like mud, but I think it would definitely look more like a believable liquid of one kind or another that way. But anyhow, absolutely fantastic job and thank you for working so hard on this, I know you are already super busy in the art department. :)
