Thoughts after eating salsa

Lay cool and content
while the last ashes
leave a joint
hungry and placid
and wishing for a better life

No cancer eats the heart
or head
no illness attacks the groin
just laze and sloth
and a dash of sin
a glutton in white flesh

A taco - some nachos
burning chile and a
bloody nose
lie awake and still
under an open window

Summer heat and a
cling swimsuit half-damp
dreaming away on video games

Sound receding and light retracting
flash of red - flash of green
stoplights outside creating
snowflake madness on the window
and an ice-cube resting in a
blender with margarita mix

Magazines and catalogs strewn
around the room and under
the bed
in danger of catching fire
while the stick of incense
fades away in silver sky serpents

Waiting for a little sign
to finish July once
and for all
Not really written after eating salsa. I was reading a friend's poem, and her handwriting made it difficult to read. I couldn't figure out one word in particular, but it looked like 'salsa' (which wasn't in context at all...). For some reason, my mind associated it with Muse's song 'Thoughts of a Dying Atheist' and the title for this soon followed. Then I just started writing, and, well, got this.
