King of spades
Hades was king of the kingdom of dirt
Miners of mines
Diggers of graves
They bow down to Hades who gave them work
And they bow down to Hades who made them sweat
Who paid them their wages and set them about
Digging and judging and dragging the depths of the earth
To turn its insides out

There’s a whooole lot I could say about how I envision the folk opera “Hadestown” but I’ll not go into it. Short version is, if I were to make a movie about it, all of the cast would be PoC, and all of the dead would have bones painted on their skin in luminous paint, and Hades would be lit by blacklight.
